Q&A: What is wrong with the healthcare system?

Question by creskin: What is wrong with the healthcare system?
There are alot of people that would love to be able to have healthcare coverage but cant afford it.

There are others that have had healthcare coverage for so long that they think that it is a right. These people tend to not follow directions of their medical providers, which makes them sick again, and then their back wondering why they are sick again.

If your not going to follow the advise of medical providers then either find a new physician that understands your needs or withdraw from the healthcare plan.
It is people like you that are unhealthy that require alot more personal attention that are keeping costs high for those of us that would like to pay less for healthcare.

A word to the healthcare providers.
If your patients dont listen and follow your advice or instructions then you should drop them as your patient and make them go to another physician. If they dont want to listen to the 2nd person then they need to be dropped from the plan all together.

What are the differences between universal healthcare and socialized medicine?

Question by R: What are the differences between universal healthcare and socialized medicine?
Universal healthcare provides a government funded insurance plan that all citizens qualify for and healthcare providers are still largely private, however with socialized medicine doctors and nurses are now government employee.

I see it as Canada being universal, while the US military healthcare as socialized medicine.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Is there any other differences?
Will I don’t think providing healthcare to those do not have it “sucks”, especially in the case of children.

Jusme: Under that type of logic, we already have nationalized healthcare because of NIH. You know there is a difference.

Best answer:

Answer by Teleprompter Messiah
The bottom line is they both s.uck. This suckage comes from government intervention in healthcare. Call it whatever you want. END OF.

Healthcare jobs are at a premium

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/Healthcare jobs are at a premium

It is a fact that people today, whatever the reason, do not take proper care of their health whether due to a fast paced lifestyle or mere complacency. People just do not eat right and are way too inactive. That, together with a rapidly aging population has led to the healthcare industry being one of the fastest growing in the world. Healthcare jobs are consequently at a premium. As one of the largest industries in the US in 2008, healthcare provided 14.3 million jobs for wage and salary workers. Furthermore, ten of the twenty fastest growing occupations are healthcare related. Healthcare will generate 3.2 million new wage and salary jobs between 2008 and 2018, more than any other industry, largely in response to rapid growth in the elderly population. An occupation in healthcare is not only a wise choice for jobseekers but also a rewarding one.

Combining medical technology and the human touch, the healthcare industry diagnoses, treats, and administers care around the clock, responding to the needs of millions of people—from newborns to the terminally ill.

The establishments that make up the healthcare industry are varied in terms of size, staffing patterns, and organizational structures. The majority of healthcare establishments are offices of physicians, dentists, or other health practitioners. Although hospitals constitute a very small percentage of all healthcare establishments, they employ close to a third of all workers. Healthcare firms employ large numbers of workers in professional and service occupations. Together, these two occupational groups account for the vast majority of jobs in the industry. The next largest share of jobs is in office and administrative support. Management, business, financial and other occupations in healthcare made up the remainder.

Professional occupations, such as physicians and surgeons, dentists, registered nurses, social workers, and physical therapists, usually require tertiary qualification and often have high levels of responsibility and complex duties. In addition to providing services, these workers may supervise other workers or conduct research. Some professional occupations, such as medical and health services managers, have little to no contact with patients.

Health technologists and technicians work in many fast-growing occupations, such as medical records and health information. Technicians, diagnostic medical sonographers, radiologic technologists and technicians, and dental hygienists may operate medical equipment and assist health diagnosing and treating practitioners. They are typically graduates of 1-year or 2-year postsecondary training programs. Service occupations attract many workers with little or no specialized education or training. These workers are typically nursing aides, home health aides, building cleaning workers, dental assistants, medical assistants, and personal and home care aides. Nursing orhome health aides provide health-related services for ill, injured, disabled, elderly, or infirm individuals either in institutions or in their homes. By providing routine personal care services, personal and home care aides help elderly, disabled, and ill persons live in their own homes instead of in an institution. With experience and, in some cases, further education and training, service workers may advance to higher-level positions or transfer to new occupations.

Healthcare jobs, therefore, can attract a wide range of talents and offer a varied salary scale.

Wal-Marting of Healthcare

By: Michael Brewer

About the Author

To most people, health insurance is a plastic card with numbers that lets you into the doctor’s office and a little booklet of paper that lives in your filing cabinet, closet or some dusty corner of your home. To Michael, affordable health insurance and the historical reforms that go along with the inequality of healthcare in America are topics of healthy discussion, worthy of further study and catalysts for education and action. Michael lives in Miami.

(ArticlesBase SC #1671035)

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/Wal-Marting of Healthcare

Physician groups, hospital corporations and any portion of their supply chains are going to get pretty thrifty this year; a trend healthcare experts say will leave an industry many believe is currently fraught with waste and wealthy executives with a more Wal-Mart-like, economizing public perception.

According to consulting firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers, no stone will be left unturned in the quest to squeeze more costs out of healthcare. After bidding good riddance to a year that saw its industry suddenly spread across the public microscope and bounced across the aisles of Congress, all facets of healthcare will look from within to find ways to cut spending.

“Squeezing everything out of their supply chains, renegotiating everything from purchasing agreements and contracts with suppliers on everything from food services to medical devices and pharmaceuticals,” will become standard healthcare practice, as the firm points out its annual report, Top Issues Facing Healthcare for 2010.

Such a prognostication takes a significant page from Wal-Mart’s corporate handbook, which prides itself on strong-arming its suppliers into at- or below-cost arrangements so the nation’s largest retailer can in turn cut costs for its customers. But for healthcare providers, this means insurance companies will essentially become more like Wal-Mart when their contracts are up for renewal.

States like Tennessee, that are already rolling out pilot projects like mandating electronic prescriptions from doctors before such mandates become federal law, will become more common among employer groups and insurance carriers themselves. We can expect heavy fines, too, for not complying. Hand-in-hand with the Obama administration’s electronic medical records provision, the so-called ePrescriptions initiative is expected to drive down labor costs associated with manual paperwork while reducing prescription fraud.

“This new carrot and stick model of accelerating change represents a shift in the government’s role as a “passive payer” to an “active buyer” of healthcare and its move from volume-based payments to value-based purchasing,” claims the PWC report.

For small business owners, many of whom are already struggling to provide affordable healthcare to their employees, employers of all sizes will begin auditing their individual group policies to find new ways to shrink their annual premiums. PWC claims this trend will also include efforts to “weed out” dependents of their no longer eligible for health insurance under their group plans due to age or other factors.

In Déjà vu style, the PWC report also suggests an emergence of odd business bedfellows to emerge this year as healthcare providers work to maximize cost savings. Physician practices, once strongly aligned with individual hospitals until the HMO/ managed care insurance model fell out of consumer and employer favor, will once again create partnerships for the sake of eliminating duplicate business expenses while caring for the same patients.

As healthcare consumers grow more accustomed to alternative means of healthcare delivery (paperless records, electronic prescriptions, etc.), look for healthcare companies to audit their own patients to find potential candidates for electronic healthcare delivery; consultations by e-mail, in-home electronic monitoring of patient vital signs and conditions from remote call centers, and other technologically based systems will become mainstream in the hospitals of the future.
